A Sudden Change in Life
Two years ago, on April 24, 2024, Keonne Rodriguez and his wife were awakened by FBI tactical agents with assault rifles. Drones, armored vehicles, and armed men swarmed their home. After his arrest, he was taken to FPC Morgantown federal prison, where his identity was stripped away. Now, as inmate #11404-511, his days are structured around shouted commands and a book of regulations.
Two Small Fish in a Big Pond
Keonne and Bill, two American software developers, were indicted under the Biden administration’s ‘War on Crypto’. They were left with little support or funding for legal defense, facing an adversary with unlimited resources. The government targeted the only effective non-custodial, open-source privacy tool, with little protest from the industry.
The Trump Administration’s Role
The Trump administration inherited the war, promising to free Ross and end the war on crypto. Progress was made: Ross was freed, the SEC was reined in, and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a memo to rein in rogue prosecutors. However, the administrative state, or ‘deep state’, ignored these orders, continuing the war.
The Battle Continues
The war is half won; the SEC is largely reined in, and the DOJ has not brought forward new charges under novel theories. However, men have been left behind on the battlefield. Keonne and Bill remain in prison, and Roman Storm is still under threat. The war will not be won until all crypto prisoners are free.
