Aave, a major player in the onchain lending space, has officially launched its V4 protocol on the Avalanche network. This marks the first time Aave V4 has been deployed outside of Ethereum, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
The move is a big one for Aave. It signals the start of a multichain expansion strategy, with Avalanche serving as the test bed for new lending markets built around tokenized real-world assets. Think US Treasuries, money market funds, private credit, and even corporate bonds. Aave says the platform is designed to support all of that.
Why Avalanche first?
Aave Labs founder Stani Kulechov explained the choice. He noted that Avalanche already has a mature Aave ecosystem. Users have been moving billions of dollars in liquidity on the V3 protocol there. On top of that, Avalanche has a growing scene for tokenized assets. That combination, Kulechov argued, makes it the natural first stop for V4’s expansion.
“Aave V4 was designed to enable new credit markets at internet scale,” Kulechov said. He added that the platform can create new opportunities to deepen liquidity and improve capital efficiency. One of the first markets they plan to launch on Avalanche is a dedicated credit market for tokenized assets.
Architecture and institutional access
Aave V4 uses something called a Hub and Spoke architecture. This setup allows for dedicated borrowing markets while sharing liquidity infrastructure. It also includes tailored risk frameworks. The idea is to make these new credit markets flexible enough for different types of assets.
Ava Labs President John Wu also weighed in. He said the integration gives institutions access to borrowing and liquidity infrastructure that’s comparable to traditional financial markets. “The next phase of tokenization is about putting assets to work,” Wu stated. He sees Aave V4 on Avalanche as a step toward a more efficient, onchain financial system.
Looking ahead
It’s still early days. Aave V4’s success on Avalanche will depend on how quickly institutions and users adopt these new tokenized asset markets. But the launch is a clear signal that Aave is betting big on real-world assets. And Avalanche, for now, is the place where that bet begins.
