Crypto influencer Zion Thomas, better known as Ansem, has been banned from Uber after the ride-hailing company decided his 4.2 rating was too low to keep him on the platform. Thomas shared the news on X, along with a screenshot of Uber’s message confirming the removal. The company noted that his score had not improved since a previous warning, suggesting this wasn’t a sudden decision.
The Reason Behind the Ban
At first, Thomas didn’t explain much, leaving his followers guessing. One user joked that he probably kept drivers waiting while his friends got ready. Thomas replied, “It’s really not my fault.” Later, he opened up more on his Market Bubble podcast. He admitted that the low rating “didn’t happen by accident” and that he “earned it.”
He described a pattern of what he called “bad habits” — being late nearly every time and bringing noisy groups into the car. “Every time I call Uber, we’re loud as f**k,” he said. He added that people would be screaming in the back seat, and that lateness often came from the chaos of leaving clubs or getting ready with friends drinking and wandering around. The way he tells it, the situation just kept piling up until Uber pulled the plug.
Uber’s Community Guidelines
Uber’s rules for riders aren’t always widely known, but they do exist. Passengers can be banned for bringing open alcohol or illegal drugs, being aggressive or disrespectful, or committing fraud. The guidelines also require seatbelts and prohibit firearms. According to a 2019 report, drivers need at least a 4.6 average over their last 100 trips to stay active. For riders, the threshold isn’t public, but Uber says it gives below-average users several chances to improve.
In Thomas’s case, his 4.2 rating apparently fell below that line. He admitted to a pattern of dillydallying and bringing drunk, loud passengers along. Perhaps it was only a matter of time before the warnings turned into a permanent ban. For now, the crypto personality will have to find another way to get around.
