The possibility of the U.S. government confirming alien life this year has gained traction in prediction markets. Polymarket traders now estimate a 20% probability for such a disclosure in 2026. This marks a notable rise in odds, driven by recent statements and meetings that suggest a shift in official transparency.
Odds Rise on Pentagon File Release
The increase in Polymarket’s odds follows President Trump’s announcement that the Pentagon will release files related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). “We’re going to be releasing a lot of things that we haven’t. I think some of it’s going to be very interesting to people,” Trump said on May 4. Kash Patel, director of the FBI, later confirmed that the relevant UAP files have already been delivered for public release.
This development has also influenced Kalshi, another large prediction market. Kalshi traders are even more optimistic, placing a 22.5% probability on alien disclosure occurring this year.
Intelligence Meetings with Religious Leaders
Perhaps more puzzling are reports of meetings between U.S. intelligence officials and religious leaders. According to three different pastors, a half-dozen religious leaders met with intelligence officers to discuss how the church might respond after confirmation of alien life. American evangelist and podcaster Tony Merkel said the officials were “Christians in intelligence operations, and they are specifically geared towards, initially, it was to gather evidence and data on what’s actually going on behind the scenes within the disclosure community.” This has fueled speculation that preparations for a formal disclosure event may already be underway.
Skepticism Remains
Not everyone is convinced. Former U.S. President Barack Obama recently addressed the issue with skepticism. He argued that if the government were hiding aliens, someone would have leaked evidence. “If there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about… I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her,” Obama said.
Despite the rising odds in prediction markets, the debate remains divided. The coming months may reveal whether the 20% probability holds any weight or if it’s just another speculative bet in a market full of surprises.
